Here’s your first session in Aphera. Watch the video walkthrough, or follow the steps below.

Create a project

File > New Project

If you just finished Aphera’s first-time setup, you already have your first project. Projects are meant to be short term, like a working session. See Projects.

Import photos

Drag RAW files or a folder onto the project window, or use File > Import Files (Cmd+I). Start with a smaller set of images, maybe 20-50 for this first session. Aphera references your photos on disk — the original files are never modified. See Importing.

Apply a Look

A Look is a saved style, and new projects come with a set of built-in looks. Select all images (Cmd+A) and press the 60 keys to apply a Look to all images. More looks are available in the Looks panel, where you can also save your own. See Looks.

Balance

Press Space to focus on a single image (once there, Space toggles zoom; Escape returns to the grid). Move through each photo with the arrow keys, adjusting Exposure and Temperature with their dedicated Balance keys — Q/A for exposure, W/S for temperature. See Balance.

Cull

Press Escape to return to Grid. Move through photos with the arrow keys. Press 15 to rate images, Option+Delete to reject.

Select Starred in the sidebar to review your picks. See Browsing.

Export

Select some images and press Cmd+E to export the selection with the active Export Preset. Files are written to disk within the project’s folder. Click Show in Finder in the right-side pantel to open and review the images. See Exporting.

Share what you made! Photos aren’t for sitting on your hard drive.
